Kaaren has
taught at all the major decorative painting conventions in the United
States and Canada. Several
of her designs have been featured in the Decorative Painter, Paint
Works, Quick & Easy Painting, Tole World, Painting, and in Nihon
Vogue, Japan's premier decorative painting magazine. Kaaren has also
had three decorative painting books published, and has designed over
100 pattern packets.
She continues to devote her time to designing and teaching both
on the national and international level.
As an
instructor, Kaaren draws from both her formal education (she holds a
Bachelor of Education degree from McGill University in Montreal,
Quebec) and her "hands-on" classroom experience.
Students enjoy her casual yet engaging approach to teaching as
she inspires them to learn new and different techniques with continued
success and in a relaxed atmosphere.
Kaaren
shares her thoughts:
"I count my blessings every day because when I started painting almost
twenty years ago, never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that my
passion would become my career. From
the very first time that I picked up a brush, like most of you, I felt
that I had been given a new lease on life.
I could not get enough...enough instruction, enough books,
enough paints, enough brushes, enough packets... I wanted it ALL! It is now my goal to try to share my knowledge and passion
with as many of you as possible with the hope that you will experience
the same joy and fulfillment that I experience every time I hold brush
in hand.
"I am as
excited about decorative painting today as I was when I first started
painting. Although my
favorite subjects are country-inspired still lifes and Americana, I
also like to paint florals and the traditional folk art style inspired
by the late Peter Ompir."
After
spending many years in south Florida, Kaaren, her husband Sam and their West Highland Terrier,
Mac, have recently relocated to a charming century home in the
unspoiled, Victorian town of Vankleek Hill, Ontario. Click here to view Kaaren's
