Archival Oils by Chroma
When painting using the mixed media technique of glazing oils over an acrylic basecoat,
Kaaren has chosen the Archival Oils by Chroma, manufacturers of the world-famous JoSonja
paints, as her preferred brand of oils. Not only are they the world's first non-cracking
ARTIST QUALITY oil paints, but they are extremely price-competitive in today's
marketplace.
"Why glaze?" you might ask. The use of oil glazes adds a luminosity to your work
that is virtually unattainable with acrylic paint alone. Glazing is the application of a
thin or transparent layer of pigment over an opaque or other transparent layer of paint.
One color is sparingly applied over the other, ensuring that each of the previous layers
has either dried naturally or has been misted with Krylon 1311 Matte Finish Spray Coating
in order to set the paint. Each subsequent layer of glazing adds more depth and dimension
to your painting, thereby creating the same glow that is unique to projects rendered
entirely in oil. The glazed color reflects the light while the
opaque color absorbs it. |
